New Year's Resolution - Fantasy Managers

Let me first greet you all a happy new year! Yup it's 2009 and I'm sure you all have your own New Year's resolution and I hope you are all able to do them this year. But do you have a resolution for your fantasy basketball teams? I guess not. So let me share with you some resolutions that might help your team this coming year (including next season's draft). This list is for fantasy addicts and people basketball don't basketball much about their teams.

I will draft better
Your team is struggling right now because you didn't do your research during your draft so make sure you do your homework next season.

I will fix my roster everyday/every week
Do yourself and the people in your league a favor...fix your roster. Most competitive people want to win but they want to win with some fight from their opponents. And yeah, you're there to win right?

I will not add/drop 300 moves
Yup, there's no written rule regarding this but with the rate their going, some people just might reach 200-300 moves by year's end.

I will not offer or accept stupid trades
This is just a league killer. Let's all be smart with the trades given we offer and respect our league.

I will give 10% time to my gf/bf instead of fantasy basketball
OK..maybe just 5%. But you should just dedicate the 5% teaching her/him how to play so she could fix your roster in case you're out of town and don't have any net.

Hope you had a fun holiday season everyone! Let me know if you're planning to do this or if you have any other new year's resolution for us, fantasy managers.

How to Find a Fantasy Basketball League

The NBA season is fast approaching and, of course, for fans everywhere, that means it's time to find a fantasy basketball league. Maybe this is your first time playing and you're looking for a good basketball or maybe you have played before, but want to try a new league. Either way, I've got some suggestions to help you find the perfect fantasy basketball league.

If you've never played fantasy basketball before and aren't really sure basketball you're getting into, let me break down the basics for you. In most fantasy leagues, you will choose a fantasy roster either by a draft or by buying/selling players. Whatever kind of league you play, you won't always be able to get all the players you want as you are restricted by other teams drafting players you want or by a salary cap. Don't get worried if you're roster isn't perfect as you can always make changes during the season. Once the season starts, you'll start earning points based on how well you're players perform. Each league has a scoring system which awards points to players for different statistical categories, resulting in a total score. Then, your player scores will be added up to give you a team score. This can be done on a daily, weekly, or some other schedule depending on the league. Basically, you want to get as many points as possible by having the best performing roster! In some leagues, the highest score is the winner, but in others a head-to-head format is used each day or week and you accumulate wins and losses.

So, now that you've digested all that, where do you play? Here are some fantasy basketball websites:

  • Yahoo Fantasy Basketball - Yahoo has a great fantasy basketball website and you can join a league with your friends or internet strangers. Yahoo leagues use a head-to-head format.
  • ESPN Fantasy Basketball - ESPN has had fantasy leagues for a long-time and is similar to Yahoo in format.
  • HoopsAvenue Fantasy Basketball - HoopsAvenue offers fantasy basketball with some unique features including a "coach" feature.

Those are 3 of the biggies, but if you're looking for something else, here's how you can find it:

  • Search for "fantasy basketball" on Google or Yahoo and see what you get!
  • Go to Yahoo Answers and ask people where they play fantasy basketball.
  • Post in a basketball forum asking for leagues.

Well, that's all there is to it. Good luck in finding a fantasy basketball league this season!

Play fantasy basketball and read NBA rumors at HoopsAvenue.
